INSIGHTS INTO PRODUCTION AT THE BMW GROUP PLANT IN MUNICH.

BMW Welt BMW X4 M

The first series-produced BMW i4 left the BMW Group Plant Munich in October 2021. The BMW Group Plant Munich is the main plant of the BMW Group. It combines the highest levels of engineering and innovative strength with the passion of its approximately 7,000 employees from over 50 nations. Vehicles and engines have been produced at the BMW Group Plant Munich since 1922. With the BMW i4, the BMW 3 Series Sedan, the BMW 3 Series Touring - both with combustion engines and hybrid drive - as well as the BMW M3 and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé, the BMW Group's main plant produces a wide-ranging product portfolio. The BMW i4 differs from conventional architectures primarily in its electric drive and high-voltage battery. Nevertheless, it was possible to use around 90 per cent of the existing production facilities in the Munich body shop for the BMW i4 as well. Only for the production of the floor assembly and the rear end are additional facilities required in isolated cases.

BMW i Vision Circular

With the BMW i Vision Circular, the BMW Group is looking ahead to a compact, all-electric vehicle for the year 2040 that is focused squarely on sustainability and luxury. Besides electrifying the product portfolio and switching to renewable energy for manufacturing, the company is focusing particularly on circular economy principles and the use of secondary materials. The overriding design aim for the BMW i Vision Circular was to create a vehicle that is optimised for closed materials cycles and achieves 100% use of recycled materials / 100% recyclability. This involves making particular use of materials that have already completed a product life cycle – or secondary materials as they are known – alongside certified bio-based raw materials. Circular design embraces the four principles of RE:THINK, RE:DUCE, RE:USE and RE:CYCLE.

Official data on fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and power consumption were determined in accordance with the mandatory measurement procedure and comply with Regulation (EU) 715/2007 valid at the time of type approval. In case of a range, figures in the NEDC take into account differences in the selected wheel and tire size; figures in the WLTP take into account any optional equipment. WLTP values are used for assessing taxes and other vehicle-related charges that are (also) based on CO2 emissions, as well as for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies, if applicable. Where applicable, the NEDC values listed were calculated based on the new WLTP measurement procedure and then converted back to the NEDC measurement procedure for comparability reasons.
