The Melody at Night.

The BMW Welt Jazz Award final took place on 23/07/2021 at Gasteig.

At the final of the BMW Welt Jazz Award 2020 the Peter Gall Quintet could convince the renowned jury. Together with Wanja Slavin on saxophone, Reinier Baas on guitar, Rainer Böhm on piano and the up-and-coming bassist Felix Henkelhausen, the drummer Peter Gall prevailed over the Adam Bałdych Quartet.

At the BMW Welt Jazz Award 2020 with the motto "The Melody at Night," the ensembles thrilled the audience in the Double Cone of the BMW Welt for the first time on Tuesday evenings. Due to the pandemic situation, the final had to be postponed for a year and could now be made up for, thanks to the City of Munich, at the Philharmonie at Gasteig.

As evaluation of the audience votes showed the Adam Bałdych Quartet won over the crowd at the event. They were presented with the Audience Award, sponsored by the hotel Barischer Hof in Munich and the ensemble will receive an exclusive performance at the Night Club Bayerischer Hof.

The free concerts of the BMW Welt Jazz Award 2020 with the motto "The Melody at Night" took place between January and March last year, for the first time as evening events, in the double cone of the BMW Welt. Moderated by Hannah Weiss, winner of the BMW Welt Young Artist Jazz Award 2019, the music-loving audience was impressed by the skills of the two ensembles.

Polish violinist Adam Bałdych was hailed as a child prodigy in his homeland at an early age and launched his international career at just 16. His unique technique, which amounts to a "redefinition of the sound of the violin," was praised. In his current project "Sacrum Profanum" he now returns to his classical roots: together with his Polish accompanists Krzysztof Dys on piano, Michał Barański on bass and Dawid Fortuna on percussion, he explores "sacred music" and its great composers, from the Middle Ages (Hildegard von Bingen) and the Renaissance (Thomas Tallis) to the contemporary Tatar-Russian avant-gardist Sofia Gubaidulina.

Peter Gall, a native of Bad Aibling who has long lived in Berlin, is one of Germany's most distinguished drummers and composers. At BMW Welt on February 18, 2020, Gall presented his first album as bandleader, "Paradox Dreambox," a massive kaleidoscope of modern jazz sounds. Staged with outstanding colleagues from the German and European scene, namely Echo Jazz award winner Wanja Slavin on saxophone, Dutch guitar shooting star Reinier Baas, winner of the New German Jazz Award Rainer Böhm on piano and up-and-coming bassist Felix Henkelhausen.
