Ingo Maurer. Designer of light.

His worldwide career began with a simple light bulb. It was hanging naked from the ceiling of a guest house in Venice and inspired Ingo Maurer to his first grandiose design: the Bulb table lamp, which is shaped like an enormous light bulb, made it straight into the collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. In the following years, the MoMA would accept also further works such as Gulp, Lucellino Wall or Zettel’z.

Ingo Maurer’s creative drive has taken him from Lake Constance via Munich and America all the way to China. His works range from individual items through to the design of entire rooms: at the Lafayette department store in Paris, for instance, or in the Münchner Freiheit underground station. What is the secret of the “light and lamp designer from Kaiserstraße”, as he calls himself? Maybe that he doesn’t just make lamps.

For Ingo Maurer designs more than lighting fixtures. He designs light. He creates moods for entire spaces and stirs people’s emotions. For more than forty years his works have narrated stories, blending technology and poetry. Look forward to the stories that Ingo Maurer and his works tell you.
