The Tokyo music scene has always swung between the two extremes of purist tradition and futuristic avant-garde. The versatile and musically subversive keyboard player and producer Hoppy Kamiyama has been attracted to the latter from an early age. Accordingly, he names Mauricio Kagel, Luciano Berio and Karlheinz Stockhausen, all exponents of a highly abstract form of New Music, as his central influences. Yet his music is also characterised by jazz improvisation and a predilection for rhythm. This is evidenced by the numerous albums he has released, generally on his own label, either under his own name or in groups such as eX-Girl, or in collaboration with international greats such as Bill Laswell, Jim Linton or Marc Ribot. Which will make it all the more exciting to hear Kamiyama present his typical Tokyo sound worlds at his Munich premiere performance at BMW Welt, this time all by himself.

Hoppy Kamiyama from Tokyo is performing on 26th February as part of the BMW Welt Jazz Award 2012 series.

All concerts take place on a Sunday, from 11.00am to 1.30pm in the Double Cone at BMW Welt.
Entry is free and doors are open from 10.30am. Please note that the space is limited and there is no guarantee of a seat.
