World music at BMW Welt: jazz virtuosi from six cities perfom on six Sundays from January 22nd to March 25th for the BMW Welt Jazz Award 2012 at the Double Cone.

Two ensembles will be competing in the finale, the highlight of the BMW Welt Jazz Award 2012. The BMW Welt Jazz Award 2012 will be presented to the winner at the end of the grand final concert, which will take place on 5th May in the BMW Welt Auditorium. The two finalists will be nominated by a jury of renowned experts from the jazz scene, once the series of matinee concerts has been completed.
BMW Welt Jazz Award comprises 10,000 euros in prize money for the winner, plus a unique cup designed and produced especially for the event by students in the training centre at BMW Design. The runner-up will receive 5,000 euros in prize money.
The distinguished jury, headed by Oliver Hochkeppel (music and cultural journalist for the Süddeutsche Zeitung, top left in the photo) comprises some of the most respected experts of the jazz scene:
- Andreas Kolb, editor-in-chief of JazzZeitung and neue musikzeitung (top centre)
- Roland Spiegel, music editor specialising in jazz at Bayerischer Rundfunk, BR-KLASSIK (top right)
- Heike Lies, MA in musicology, music and musical theatre section of the Department of Culture in the state capital of Munich (bottom left)
- Christiane Böhnke-Geisse, artistic director of the Unterfahrt jazz club in Munich (bottom centre)

AUDIENCE PRIZE
The Audience Prize is your prize. After each concert, members of the audience have a chance to rate the performance using a special scoring system. Voting slips will be available at every matinee concert.
Once the scores from all the performances have been evaluated, the ensemble with the best average score will win an exclusive stay at Schloss Elmau (near Garmisch-Partenkirchen); this will include a performance to take place before a select audience. The prize is donated by Schloss Elmau and it will also be presented at the finale. By taking part in the vote, you too will have a chance to win one of several prizes.
