Jazz and the City.

Jazz is a city phenomenon. It developed from the blues in New Orleans, New York and Chicago and ever since its styles have evolved throughout the cities of the world, becoming an international musical language with a range of dialects. It is these regional distinctions which the fourth edition of the BMW Welt Jazz Award sets out to trace under the motto "Jazz and the City".

Six outstanding representatives of the jazz cities of Oslo, Paris, Barcelona, Vienna, Tokyo and New York present their groups, the current trends of each of their scenes as well as global trends in jazz in the course of six Sunday matinees at the BMW Welt Double Cone.

A jury of experts selects two of these ensembles for the grand final concert in the Auditorium and chooses the winner from between these two. And you can also vote for your favourite to win the Audience Prize at the matinee concerts. Join in and experience fascinating, innovative jazz and fair competition in the unique atmosphere of BMW Welt.
