"COLOURS, CONTOURS, CARS"

WORKSHOP FOR PRESCHOOLERS AGED 5 TO 6

Preschool children can now also sample the delights of the BMW Museum. The new 2.5-hour preschool workshop entitled "Colours, Contours and Cars" is specially designed for the knowledge and skill levels of 5 to 6-year-olds and takes them on a very special voyage of discovery. In a series of entertaining exercises and exciting stories based around cars, children train their perception, memory and motor skills during their tour of the museum. After the challenging shape search, things get more creative: Using a workbook, the children solve tasks in teams and revise what they have learned in a playful way. Afterwards, the preschoolers use brightly coloured materials and stamps to design their own little Isetta. The workshop is supervised by a trained team of educators.

DESIGN FOR YOUNG CREATIVE MINDS.

WORKSHOP FOR YOUNG BMW DESIGNERS AGED 7-14.

This workshop gives children and teenagers the chance to become automobile designers themselves and create their own car of the future. Firstly, the young designers are provided with sketch paper and set off on an inspiration tour of the BMW Museum, collecting ideas under pedagogical guidance and seeing how design has developed over the last 90 years. They trace trends, jot down some initial drafts and create a miniature clay model. The children then use professional equipment at a light desk to create templates and copy shapes. The newly designed cars gradually take shape as the youngsters make use of COPIC markers and airbrush pistols. Younger participants use so-called blow pens. The assignment also includes coming up with a name for the vehicle, as well as technical specifications, special features and an advertising slogan. Finally the results are presented to the other groups and discussed. This interdisciplinary workshop gives children and young people a hands-on opportunity to train skills such as observation, comparison, analysis, interpretation and the implementation of ideas.

PHOTOGRAPHY FOR CREATIVE MINDS.

"UNUSUAL PERSPECTIVES" WORKSHOP AGE: 13 TO 18.

The museum workshop "Unusual Perspectives" offers youngsters aged 13 to 18 the opportunity to get involved in creative activities such as design and photography. What does design mean? How does an automobile designer work? Firstly there is an interactive tour to stimulate the youngsters' imagination and curiosity. They are given initial insights into the history of BMW and the design process. Here the museum exhibits allow for a wide range of interdisciplinary approaches. Themes such as modern architecture and art are addressed as well as sustainability and other issues impacting on the future of society. In the second part of the workshop, participants then work in teams to compile a record of what they have seen in photographs. The main focus now is on the youngsters' own perspective. The groups are issued with cameras. All participants move freely around the museum taking photographs relating to a specific, predefined artistic theme. In this way they develop a sense of technical refinement, architectural detail, light incidence and mirroring effects, as well as learning to see things from a bird's-eye-view and a worm's-eye-view. Finally the results are presented to the other groups and discussed.
