FAMILY SUNDAY IN SEPTEMBER: OKTOBERFEST.
As Bavarians continue to enjoy their traditional Oktoberfest on the Theresienwiese, we will be celebrating this folk festival in our own way at the BMW Museum on Sunday 24th September.
Typical fairground challenges such as test-your-strength and hoopla will get the whole family in a festive and competitive frame of mind.
This month, we have a novel activity for children. We are setting aside an area for embossing, a traditional method of leatherworking used to decorate belts, bags and the like. For example, they might like to fashion stylish pendants or Oktoberfest accessories that will be the envy of their friends.
Other craft activities include making heart-shaped ornaments out of slate. We will also be organising a ‘Wiesn Quiz’ (Wiesn being the affectionate abbreviation given by the locals to the fair), an opportunity for our visitors to show off their knowledge of the Oktoberfest from its earliest days to the present.
And if you’ve never seen the popular clowns Lupino and Lollele in action before, you should definitely seek them out and take away a great memento of the day in the form of a figure artistically made from balloons.
The Family Sunday programme also offers free guided tours in English at 3 pm. The usual discount on a family ticket applies.
Family Sunday runs from 10am to 6pm and is included in the museum entry price.
